Cognitive Dissonance: Conflicting Beliefs and Actions
Tuesday Sep 14, 2021
Tuesday Sep 14, 2021
Ep #114 - You know how you feel when your actions don't match up with what you say you are doing in your life, or when you believe you are a good person and then you gossip about someone, or you think you are a good student but then you go out and drink the night before a test - or like, literally, before the test.
This energy you feel inside of you, this disharmony inside of you is called "Cognitive Dissonance." You know when you feel this. You can lie all you want to the outside world but you conscious and unconscious mind are watching - they know better than believe the lies you try to tell them.
There is a way out of this distortion. There is a simple 3-step process that you can use today to begin to bring harmony between what you say and what you do.
You can keep blindly going about life expecting everything to just "sunshine on a dog's butt" kinda way - or you can actively seek and pursue your highest sense of self.
Either way time is going to move forward. Wouldn't you rather be sitting in your seat of personal power rather than being tooled around by a conflict between what you say versus what you do?
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Paradox of Choice
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Wednesday Sep 08, 2021
Ep #113 - There are a plethora of choices for you to make in your life. Trillions and trillions of choices you will make. Some will benefit you and others not so much. Being mindful of how you make your decisions and being clear about what you desire from your choices will be your guide to creating the life you desire from your time in college.
BUT...college isn't just about preparing for the future. So much of the college experience is about seizing the hundreds and hundreds of options you have to expand your horizons. Paying attention to what you can do while there and thinking and ruminating on what you might look back on and wish you had tried while attending university will offer you the opportunity to be clear and precise in making your decisions about what to do with the little "free time" you have on a day-to-day basis.
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Immediate vs Future Rewards & Gratification
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
Ep 112 - How do you see your future. How are the decisions you are making in the immediate moment guiding and controlling the direction your life travels toward? We have talked about instant gratification, we have talked about delayed gratification - these are topics that are so important they bare revisiting.
The human brain is designed to seek out instant gratification - especially around food. When we start to use external things like booze, drugs, food, TV, and our smart phone to buffer away any real connection to our emotions we are actually letting the ancient brain override our rational thought - thus we fall in line with instinctual actions and behaviors, rather than being in control over those same hard-wired habits.
Interest piqued? Good - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now.
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Anxiety Free Conversations
Tuesday Aug 24, 2021
Tuesday Aug 24, 2021
Ep 111 - When you experience anxiety during a conversation, whether in person or via text, the cause can often be dialed straight into you being in your head thinking about what the other person is thinking about you. Perhaps you think they are judging you. Maybe you are worried they don't like the way you look, the way you dress, or the way you are talking to them.
No matter what is going through your mind, it is a pretty safe bet the other person is going through something similar in their head too.
If you want to have anxiety free conversation then you are in the right place, at the right time - right now. We are going to discuss why being present in the conversation you are in, actually listening to what the other person is saying, and not being in your head thinking about what you are going to say next - is the absolute best way to release your anxiety and step into the confidence that comes from connecting during the conversation.
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Bullying is a sign of inner-pain and suffering
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Ep 110 - Bullying is prevalent and all around us more than we might recognize. It's not just the obvious fighting, yelling, abuse, and mean behavior we're very familiar with from the hallways of secondary school, in public spaces, and in our own homes. Bullying shows itself when people, politicians, twitter, etc. verbally attack, gossip, and behave dishonorably toward another human or animal.
Sadly, bullying is not a recent phenomenon that has just gained traction because of social media. Bullying has been a part of human existence since we lived in caves. We, as a species, are just now seeking our way out of the vicious cycle that bullying creates. Someone gets bullied, so they bully, then more bullying begets more bullying. This is made worse when leaders in our society do it and then the internet jumps on board.
You and I can be the conduit for better behavior. Once you know better it is your duty to do better. Understanding the pain the bully is going through is perhaps the most empowering way for us to understand the motivation for someone to "go after" someone else.
We think children are resilient - but they are not. The awareness around mental health this century is a clear indicator that kids aren't resilient. If kids are so resilient then why are there so many adults coping with mental health issues that can be directly linked to the way they were treated as tiny adults. I know the bullying I experienced when I was a child effected me greatly.
Just hit play and let's dive into this together so we can be the conduits for healthy change in inner-personal relationships between humans, animals, and ourselves!
Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I'll call on you.

Sparking your new term toward success
Thursday Aug 12, 2021
Thursday Aug 12, 2021
Ep 109 - Each term is its own entity, its own world. You can choose to replicate the habits from the previous term or reinvent yourself if you are in the seat of self-awareness that opens you up to more desirable habits.
You can seek to uncover what sparks you and then set about making that happen in this term. How are you going to schedule your time? How are you going to prioritize what is important to you and then expand your world to add more to your experience.
Time management, organizational structure, communication with your professors, TAs, and classmates will open you up to the resources and the guidance that will bring your term to a successful conclusion.
Just hit play and lets get into this topic before you semester starts and you are just going about it all without the direction and focus that will lead you new term toward the success you desire.

Your actions today can cost you tomorrow's accomplishments
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
Wednesday Aug 04, 2021
Ep 108 - What are you giving up by not striving to become the person you desire to see yourself manifest toward? What are the costs to your overall mental and physical health when you opt for today's comfort instead of steady, sustainable work and growth?
To not become and BE the person you desire is to wake up one day with the question, "how did I get here," spiraling in your mind over and over.
Embracing discipline is a moniker of mine, as well as it can be one for you too. What you do, or don't do today...is it worth the cost of your tomorrow - your future self?
Just hit play and let's dive into this subject. Stand up, step forward, raise your hand, I'll call on you - it's your turn.

Anger can ruin your life
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Ep 107 - It is in our youth when we explore the boundaries of what is acceptable behavior and what society, our inner-circle, and ourselves deems outside the lines of acceptable behavior. Your friends will play a huge role in this, so to say that you should be mindful of the behaviors of your friends can not be stated with a high enough emphasis.
Getting triggered into an emotional state is something that happens hundreds and thousands of times per day. Some of these triggering circumstances are just moments in time that pass as easily as they came into your awareness. Others circumstances - well these are the ones that can forever alter your life. These are the ones that we seek to manage and work on in ourselves when they are small events so we are prepared and experienced when the larger, more monumental events occur that can send our lives down a path that is dark and gloomy.
Just hit play and let's discuss how you can create and elongate your space between the stimulus and your response - so you guide yourself toward behaving with your wise mind rather than succumbing to your reptilian, reactionary, shadow-self.

Body Image, Mental Health, and Good Nutrition
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
Ep 106 - Take control of your body, take control of your life. It's one of my favorite quotes around physical fitness and one I adhere to with very focused discipline since I achieved sobriety in 2017. Now, I have not always been this focused. In fact, throughout my college career I would only moderately pay attention to eating healthy and going to the gym.
You all know better so you can do better. This episode will discuss how you can feel differently about yourself when you look in the mirror. How you can speak more kindly to yourself when you look at yourself in the mirror and how you can begin to see a new you show itself once you actively take charge of what you put in your body, you pay attention to food in, and you set your intention to be active at a level where you burn more calories than you eat.
I understand that there are those that have body dysmorphia. My sister has this so I am keenly aware of how it effects mental health. Listen with an open mind and ask yourself where you have been blasé about your fitness, nutrition, and health in general and - Just Hit Play and let's dive into this topic together!

Your word plays a foundational role in adulting 101
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Ep 105 - Being a person with an honorable word. A trustworthy sense about you. Standing by the decisions you make and showing others you can be counted on. All of these examples and more begin to form the kind of adult you will create within yourself.
You can be the person that no ones asks for anything because you don't follow through or you can be the one that sees your commitments to fruition. You can also be the person who says no when you really don't want to do something or you have already prioritized what is important to you.
Being an honorable adult doesn't mean you say yes to everything - whether with a smile on your face or begrudgingly. Knowing that it is okay to say no is imperative to your personal growth and maturation. Also believing your word and promises hold weight and, barring a goblin stealing you away to Hades, you do what you say because that is you respecting yourself even more than it means you respect the other person or people.
Just hit play and let's dive into being impeccable with your word and following through when you commit to an event, activity, or just a bit of one-on-one time with someone who desires that from you.
