Saturday Mar 21, 2020
Ep #44 - In this week's episode we will discuss creating a new routine during the corona-crisis and answer some listener's questions pertaining to graduations being cancelled, not having your social circle near, and how online learning isn't at all like the classroom.
This is temporary, you do not have to let your emotions run buck-wild. You can control them by focusing on what you can do now, today, to make your life better. You also don't have to let other's reactions and emotions around this pandemic become your own. You are more than allowed to respond in accordance to how you feel and what is congruent to how you decide to deal with this crisis.
Remember - thoughts cause feelings. You are in control of your thoughts and the feelings that are caused by them.

Thursday Mar 12, 2020
Ep #43 - In this week's episode we discuss being prepared for emergency situations. Are your finances in order so you can afford unexpected costs? Being in college I'd say, probably not. How can you better prepare for something like Covid-19 in the future.
It could be a natural disaster, a broken bone, or a death in the family. Anyone of these can wrench your plans and life and you have to make sure you are ready to be responsible for yourself.
Build a plan ASAP so you stay on track with your courses, track your spending, and be aware of how you are responding to the events taking place in front of you and around you and be mindful to calm your emotional triggers and not react irrationally.
You know, like buying $117 in toilet paper.

Social Media and your mental health
Friday Mar 06, 2020
Friday Mar 06, 2020
Ep #42 - In this week's episode we'll discuss how social media affects your mental health and what you can do to monitor and control it so you aren't at the mercy of the emotional ebbs and flows that your phone can put you through at any given moment.
College is a time to explore and learn new things about yourself, your academia, and the world as a whole. Sometimes it can be hard to balance school, work, and your social life - while also trying to take care of your physical and mental health.
Now, add your phone, and everything that it brings to your fingertips, and ask yourself how difficult will balancing all the previously mentioned things above AND the commitments you make to your favorite social media apps.
Your mental health helps determine how you handle stress, anxiety, social interactions, i.e. how you relate to others, and your decision making process. Make sure you are focused on those aspects of yourself more than you are focused on the trending hashtag of the day.

Friday Feb 28, 2020
Ep #41 - In this weeks episode we discuss finding what sparks you. You have so many opportunities in college to step outside your comfort zone and it's beyond integral to your overall development that you do just that - step outside your comfort zone.
I'll cover getting out of trance mode, where your spark might be hidden, how you can step into the higher version of yourself that's been inside of you all along, and what happens if you don't experiment with a multitude of diverse experiences while the opportunities are beckoning for your participation.

Depression and suicide prevention
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
Sunday Feb 16, 2020
Ep #40 - In this week's episode we discuss depression and suicide prevention. Mental health in our society is on red alert. Within our youth, it has finally taken the mic as the biggest issue being faced by a generation with all the knowledge of the world at their fingertips, but without the emotional maturity or know-how to interact within an ever-demanding society.
Depression and suicide were an issue when I was in my 20s. The fact that it is now being focused on so much is a relief. Unfortunately, our society, while wanting to be proactive about mental health, still doesn't have a full grasp of how to talk with teens and 20-somethings about the suffering and trauma they are living with every day.
I, by no stretch of the imagination, have any better grasp on how to talk about this subject - but I am willing to take the mic and talk about it today because I have lived through my own version of mental health issues. Living in the shadows with pain, trauma, and depression isn't serving you anymore than it served my generation and the generations before me.

How your emotions motivate you
Saturday Feb 08, 2020
Saturday Feb 08, 2020
Ep #39 - In this week's episode we continue the conversation around emotional self-regulation. Emotional self-regulation is a necessary skill to develop for mental and emotional consistency. In general, emotional self-regulation has been defined as choosing to act or behave in alignment with your long-term interests and primary core values.
This is so important in college (and beyond) because when your feelings and emotions spike, whether positively or negatively, you can be susceptible to the ups and downs so much so that you stop getting done what you need to and start acting in a way that can cause you negative consequences.
Imagine if you are happy you got a good grade or sad you got a bad grade. If you let your emotions control you then you could end up at the bar or hiding in the dark instead of getting on to the next assignment or going to work. Going to the bar to celebrate or to drown your sorrows is no way to go about life when there are other things to tend to.
There are three ways your feelings and emotions can motivate you and there are two ways the energy from those emotions will drive you.
Energy either drives you toward or away from what you want or don't want. Your emotions and feelings show themselves in approach, avoid, or attack motivation.
Click play and see how you can start being in control of the situation instead of having the situation control you.

Understanding your emotions so they don't control you
Saturday Feb 01, 2020
Saturday Feb 01, 2020
Ep #38 - In this week's episode we discuss emotional self-regulation. Feelings and emotions will ALWAYS be caused by your thoughts and when those thoughts are confused as facts instead of the opinions they actually are, that is when we can begin to spiral down the rabbit hole in our own minds. This spiraling of emotions can and usually will alter your actions and behaviors and leave you dealing with results that are unfavorable.
Using your values as the baseline of how you should act and respond to your thoughts and emotions will put you in a positive state of mind and ultimately lead you down the path that best serves your highest purpose - and will definitely help you beat the overwhelm you feel in college (and life) thus guiding you toward the success you desire.

Successfully navigate the workload of your syllabi
Friday Jan 24, 2020
Friday Jan 24, 2020
Ep #37 - In this week's episode we discuss how to build the habit of organizing your calendar so nothing in your syllabi shows up unexpected.
If you do not schedule an event, study session, date, workout, downtime - then you will be more apt to feel "not in the mood" and decide to do something less productive which you could later regret.
What we coverL
- How are you going to make sure you hit all your marks throughout the semester?
- Have you scheduled out your main events
- If it is not measured it can not be managed
You must put things into your calendar/schedule to make sure they get done.

Acclimating to the new semester
Friday Jan 17, 2020
Friday Jan 17, 2020
Ep #36 - In this week's episode we discuss acclimating to the new semester through mindfulness of habit setting and preparation.
There are a ton of new things to get used to as the semester starts and if you are not paying attention to how you establish yourself at the beginning you could find yourself very behind, very early.
Each semester is a new chance to make changes to the previous semester's habits.
- Introduce yourself to all your professors - even if for 15 seconds, and do this after each class.
- Meet people in class: maybe you know people from other places, etc. that you can begin to think about study groups with.
- Pick your study classmates carefully - watch out for the party animals who will rarely show up to class or study sessions prepared or otherwise.
- Where are there openings you can best use for studying rather than going back to your dorm or apartment?
- What are your best days to request to work or not work?
- What is the best time to get up and go to bed?
- What does your schedule look like?
- Do you have the best path to class/work/etc figured out?
- What is the best time to leave?
- What is the latest you can leave and make it on time?
