How your emotions motivate you

Ep #39 - In this week's episode we continue the conversation around emotional self-regulation. Emotional self-regulation is a necessary skill to develop for mental and emotional consistency. In general, emotional self-regulation has been defined as choosing to act or behave in alignment with your long-term interests and primary core values.
This is so important in college (and beyond) because when your feelings and emotions spike, whether positively or negatively, you can be susceptible to the ups and downs so much so that you stop getting done what you need to and start acting in a way that can cause you negative consequences.
Imagine if you are happy you got a good grade or sad you got a bad grade. If you let your emotions control you then you could end up at the bar or hiding in the dark instead of getting on to the next assignment or going to work. Going to the bar to celebrate or to drown your sorrows is no way to go about life when there are other things to tend to.
There are three ways your feelings and emotions can motivate you and there are two ways the energy from those emotions will drive you.
Energy either drives you toward or away from what you want or don't want. Your emotions and feelings show themselves in approach, avoid, or attack motivation.
Click play and see how you can start being in control of the situation instead of having the situation control you.
